ASA 101 skipper challenge
A mixed decision game for the moment between knowing the rule and making the skipper call. Work visual scenarios, get immediate feedback, then save weak calls into drills or the logbook.
Passive visits only read saved progress. This page writes only when you finish a run, queue missed drills, or save a logbook note. Storage key: asa101.skipperChallenge.v1.
Why this challenge exists
Beginner keelboat courses require more than recall. The skipper has to connect language, weather, traffic, trim, safety, and crew actions under changing conditions, then prove the habit on the boat.
- American Sailing ASA 101 course page - ASA 101 describes safe confident sailing, sail trim, helm commands, seamanship, navigation rules, and light-to-moderate conditions.
- American Sailing ASA 101 certification standards PDF - public standards include keeping the vessel in control, departing/returning, points of sail, tacking, jibing, and crew-overboard skills.
- US Sailing Basic Keelboat - the graduate outcome is responsible skippering and crewing in familiar waters.
- RetrievalPractice.org - bringing knowledge to mind helps reveal what is solid versus weak.
